Walters' Lead Widens In Race To Capture GOP Nomination For State Superintendent

The gap has widened in the race to win the Republican nomination for Oklahoma state superintendent, according to a poll released Friday afternoon.

The exclusive News 9 / News On 6 poll showed state Sec. Of Education Ryan Walters with an almost-19-point lead over Shawnee Superintendent April Grace. Walters' 50.1 percent to 31.5 percent edge has a margin of error of 5.4 percent.

This poll was comprised of 322 likely Republican runoff voters and was administered August 11-17.

While Walters broadened his lead, 18.4 percent of those polled considered themselves still to be undecided.

The winner of this runoff August 23 will advance to the Nov. 8 general election against Democrat Jena Nelson, who was the 2020 Oklahoma Teacher Of The Year.
