A grocery store will be moving in Okmulgee after a sales tax incentive was approved last night by the City Council.

The Cox Cash Saver in Okmulgee has had some confusion with who gets its sales taxes for many years: The Muscogee Nation, or the State. Lawsuits were filed and the money was held in escrow for several years. 

Mayor Richard Larabee says the State Supreme Court ruled a few months ago that the sales tax should have been going to the state. Last night, the council approved $250,000 of that sales tax money, which has been held in escrow for 4 years, to incentivize Cox Cash Saver to build a new grocery store on West 8th street.
